Newsletter 29th September 2008
29 September 2008

Dear Parents

Congratulations!
A huge well done to all the children who represented Compton Primary School in the Kings’ Cluster Primary Cross Country Event last Tuesday.  All the children were a credit to the school, our teams worked very hard and achieved great success. We would especially like to congratulate Eve Wilde, Luke Hide, Joe Sutherden, Charlie Wallbridge and Finlay Keith who have been given places in the area finals on the 5 November 2008.  Eve Wilde achieved first place in the year 5/6 race!  Our year 5/6 team came second overall and our year 5/6 girls and year 3/4 boys came 3rd overall.  Well done!  I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Cole for helping to organise our teams.
Harvest
I would like to thank those of you who attended the Harvest Service yesterday. The weather was very kind to us for the picnic and I hope you all enjoyed the service, and if you were able to stay, the events afterwards. A big thank you to everyone for your Harvest Gift donations.

Transition Meeting for year 6 children applying to Kings’ School
Just a reminder that the transition meeting to Kings’ school, for parents of Year 6 children who attend Compton and St Faiths will be held on Monday 29 September at 6.30 pm in our school hall. If you are interested in your child attending Kings’ School next year the Headteacher of Kings', Sue Lawrence, will be introducing herself and speaking about Kings’. There will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions.

Parent Consultations
Parent consultations take place this Thursday 2 October 2008
Please remember that all children will need to be collected from school at 12.15 pm, unless your child has a guitar lesson after this time in which case please collect your child after their lesson finishes.
When you come into school please take the opportunity to view your child’s Christmas Art work which will be displayed in the hall and which can be professionally printed to make beautiful Christmas cards or gift tags.  More information about this is to be found in the CSA's Newsletter which was sent home last Friday. The CSA will also have a collection box in the hall during parent consultations afternoon and evening only, in which they would like you to place any old mobile phones you no longer need in order to help raise funds. This information supersedes that in the CSA newsletter about the collection of old mobile phones.

Shoe Box appeal
Just a reminder that any shoe boxes need to be in school before half term ready to be collected.  The boxes are displayed in the front entrance and the pile is growing!  Today one of our Governors, Simon Theobalds the local contact for the Rotary Club Shoe Box Appeal will be coming to our assembly to explain a little more about the project to the children.

Parking
We have had complaints again from residents in the village about inconsiderate parking. Please can I remind everyone to park thoughtfully avoiding the white lines and residents driveways. Please do not turn in drive ways or attempt three point turns in the road. We have also had complaints about the length of time parents remain after dropping their children at school before driving off, making it difficult for others to use the pavement. I would appreciate your support with these issues.

Jeans for Genes Day - 2 October
As usual we shall be running a non uniform day and inviting the children to wear jeans or something similar on 2 October.   We shall be asking for a donation of £2.00 and this money will go towards helping children with genetic disorder.
