Newsletter - 20th October 2008
22 October 2008
Dear Parents
Thank you to all the children, staff and parents who contributed to our Jeans for Genes day. A total of £211.43 was raised for the charity. We would also like to thank the CSA who organised a very successful Race Night on Friday evening raising more money towards our outdoor climbing apparatus project. Details of how much was raised will be given in the CSA newsletter after half term.
Football and Netball Matches
Well done to all the children who played in the netball and football match at home against Sparsholt, last Wednesday. Congratulations to the netball team who won 5 - 2 and the football team who were very close to gaining a draw at 2 -3. It was lovely to hear the visiting team commenting on our pupil’s excellent sportsmanship and manners.
Children in Year 3 also thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to take part in an Invasion Games Festival at Kings School last Wednesday afternoon with other local Primary Schools.
Trips
Class 4 had an excellent trip to Butser Hill last Tuesday, experiencing the everyday life of the Celts and Romans, 2000 years ago. Class 3 are also looking forward to their trip next Thursday to Highclere Castle. They will be viewing an exciting collection of ancient Egyptian finds accumulated by the 5th Earl of Carnarvon and Howard Carter.
Shoe Box Appeal
Just a reminder that any shoe boxes need to be in school before half term ready to be collected. The boxes are displayed in the front entrance and the pile is growing! Thank you for your support with this project, you can imagine the difference receiving a gift like this makes!
Plant Sale
Thank you very much to Mr Field for the kind donation of plants. Over £100 pounds has been raised and the money will be used to further develop our school grounds.
Child Aid
At Compton Primary School we support Christopher and Atchaya who live in a village called Olaipadi in India. We raise money by saving our loose change to fill the ‘Penny Pot’ in the foyer and later in the year hold a sponsored spell. Children can bring in pennies at any time and add them to the jar. The money that is raised helps to pay for Christopher and Atchaya to go to school and receive an education.
Coats
Please can you remind children that they need to bring a coat to school as winter is fast approaching.
Proud of assemblies
We are delighted that so many parents are able to attend ‘Proud Of’ and see this as a very important event in the life of the school. It is lovely to see the children being proud of their achievements and it is an excellent opportunity for you to find out all that has been going on in school.
Could we kindly remind that parents arrive for ‘Proud Of’ no earlier than 2.45 pm and in good time for a prompt start at 3.00 pm. It would also be much appreciated if noise levels can be kept to a minimum and if necessary younger siblings taken out of the hall to avoid disruption.
School Lunches
The new menu is now available please let us know before half term if you wish to change the days on which your child/children have a school meal.
It is really important that before you change from a lunch to sandwiches or vice versa that you contact the school office to let them know. At least one days notice is required to do this. Increasingly children are arriving with a packed lunch or requiring a meal without the school being aware of the change and this increases workload for the office staff and the kitchen to ensure the meals each day are correct. This is necessary to ensure parents are correctly billed for meals. It is also important because the kitchen is operated by Hampshire Caterers who are a separate company therefore the meals requested by the school must tally with the number of meals cooked or the school is charged for any discrepancies.
Outstanding Lunch Bills
Can we please remind all parents of children who eat a school lunch that bills have been sent out for this half term. If you have not received a bill could you please check in school bags etc.
Healthy Schools Award
We are very proud to have achieved the Healthy Schools Award last year. However we have noticed lately that chocolate bars, and other unhealthy snacks are appearing in lunch boxes. Although the lunch staff work hard to encourage children to eat their fruit etc it is very difficult when a chocolate bar beckons! Also all the children are asked to bring a ‘water’ bottle to school each day however some appear to have squash in them. Your co-operation with this would be much appreciated.
